Help us beautify a stretch of the Towpath along the Canal by taking part in our 2nd annual native tree planting party- Trunks for the ‘Yunk. Refreshments and snacks provided as a thank you to our volunteers as well as a free exclusive new Schuylkill River t-shirt. Additionally, the Manayunk Brewery has invited all our volunteers to celebrate afterward at the Brewery with free food and drink specials!! Don't miss this chance to help out & hang out!

Since 1991, American Rivers has sponsored an annual event, National River Cleanup. Last year over 95,000 volunteers joined together to remove 600 tons of trash from waterways in 50 states. 

The Philadelphia Canoe Club, Fairmount Park and the Schuylkill Project are partnering to bring this cleanup event to the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.  By land and water, join in the effort to clean up the Schuylkill River at East Falls and Manayunk on Saturday, June 1 from 9am to 12 noon. Volunteers will meet at three locations: the Philadelphia Canoe Club located on Ridge Avenue at the Wissahickon Creek and Schuylkill River, East Falls at the parking lot under the Twin Bridges between Ridge Avenue and Kelly Drive and Manayunk at the Lock Street parking lot. Volunteers must bring their own gloves.

Join Friends of the Manayunk Canal at Venice Island Rec. Center to participate in a City wide Fairmount Park clean up day! We will pick up trash as well as work on invasive species removal at our native tree planting site. Don't miss it!

Join us for a walking tour of the Manayunk Canal Towpath with our expert guide, Sally Willig, Ph.D. Learn about how the natural environmental along the Manayunk Canal helped to shape the history of Manayunk as well as find out about current issues and initiatives impacting the future of the Canal, including recent development proposals, dredging plans and the proposed demolition of the Pump House. Meet at Bucks County for a free coffee and join us for a walk on the Manayunk Canal Towpath to the Flat Rock Dam.  Also, the exclusive new Schuylkill River t-shirts will be available for a donation of $24, so don't forget to pick yours up!

Join Friends of the Manayunk Canal on Main Street at Canal View Park for a fun spring inspired children's scavenger hunt along the Towpath!  Additionally, don't miss forget to stop by and visit our tent to learn more about the other great events Friends of the Manayunk Canal has coming up!  Can't make it to the scavenger hunt?  No big deal.  As the featured charity, you'll be supported a great cause by just coming down to Main Street and enjoy the music, shopping and food!

The Schuylkill Watershed Congress is a gathering of watershed citizens interested in understanding, protecting and restoring their local streams. The event features a diverse program with concurrent and poster sessions covering a broad range of watershed topics.

For 2008, the Keynote Speaker will be John K. Jackson, Senior Research Scientist, at the Stroud Water Research Center. His presentation is titled, "Is a Cold Water Fishery by any other name still as clean a stream? A look at Pennsylvania's complex system for labeling streams and what these labels mean for a stream's biodiversity, management, and protection."

Join Friends of the Manayunk Canal and a special guest expert from the Energy Coordinating Agency on Wednesday, Jan. 9th at 6:00pm at the Venice Island Recreation Center (which is on Cotton Street and the Manayunk Canal) for an upcoming hands-on energy workshop!  This FREE hands-on energy saving workshop is open to all local residents interested in learning how to make their homes warmer, more comfortable, more efficient and save money at the same time. 

The workshops are “hands-on” and focus on how save energy by:
· Caulking air leakage sites
· Using expanding foam insulation
· Installing rope caulk, plastic storm windows, weather-stripping, V-seal and other basic weatherization materials
· Switching to compact fluorescent lamps (cfls)
